About me
Hi, it’s lovely to meet you. I’m Charné Matthew – a certified Specialist Wellness Counsellor and Life Coach. I live in Cape Town with my incredible husband, Cameron. Over weekends you can find us on a beach, having dinner with friends, or exploring new coffee shops (where we’ll likely be sharing a slice of cake). During the week, I work for the UCT Neuroscience Institute when I’m not seeing clients.
I hold a Bachelor’s and Honours degree in Psychology from Stellenbosch University and have been working in counselling roles for over seven years. I was part of SAPS Victim Support for six years, providing debriefing and trauma support to victims after various crises. In 2022, I combined this with volunteering at Hope House Kuilsriver, offering person-centred counselling to clients. I was also previously involved with Wisdo, a mental health app, where I provided group and individual support to clients with mental health challenges.
In 2023, I returned to formal study to prepare for opening my practice. In 2025, I completed a Higher Certificate in Christian Counselling, with a focus on marriage, family, and relationships, trauma and crisis, and addictions. This training was grounded in a bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach and equipped me to work with clients from diverse backgrounds and belief systems.
I later completed my Life Coaching certification, which used a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) approach, and focused on goal setting, behavioural change and personal growth.
